My heart was so happy when the girls showed me what they bought for Matt. It is our tradition that I give the boys a Valentine and Matt gives the girls a Valentine. We will do that tonight because we did not have it ready this morning. Ha!
But Matt and I also model celebrating each other and teaching our kids how they should be treated. The girls on their own bought Matt’s Valentine because they are learning to love and honor him through our example. Matt is showing the girls what it is like to be cherished and treasured. I am showing my boys that they are respected and capable. And they are holding doors for me as we enter places.
We absolutely love our kids but our marriage is front and center. It is not about the dollar amount (although I fully accept gifts of all sizes). It is about thoughtfulness, kindness, and mindfulness. Your kids are listening to your words but more than that they are watching your example.
